He will succeed Mr Andrew Heyn, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Patrick will take up his appointment during August 2013.
Mr Patrick joined the FCO in 1988. Most recently he has worked on South Asian issues both in London as Additional Director and in Kabul, as Deputy Head of Mission. His previous postings have taken him to Africa and to Europe.
On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Burma, Mr Patrick has said:
I am delighted to be appointed as British Ambassador to Burma. The next few years should be a period of tremendous political and economic change in the country. I look forward to playing my part in British efforts to support Burma on its continuing path to democracy and prosperity.
