I live in Meiktila and I have been checking for information uploaded on facebook related to recent events here. I realized that there has been a lot of information that was missing from online articles about the riots.

The riots mainly happened in the Thiri Mingalar, Chan Aye, Mingalar Zayar and Pha Sa Pa La quarters of Meiktila, Myanmar.

I think that everyone already knew about the reports of rioters breaking down a jewellery store and fires started the Thiri Mingalar quarter, but this was in response to an innocent monk that was just killed by Muslim extremists.

The day following the murder of a Buddhist monk, the muslim aggression escalated. At 4:00 AM, Muslim Extremists were blaring ear-piercing threats by using a loudspeaker: “KILL BURMESE PEOPLE. CLEAN YOUR FEET USING THE BLOOD OF BURMESE NECK’S”.

They were causing a disturbance with their loud threats so the police and some Burmese people pleaded with them not to shout like that, but they would not stop their calls to violence. After some time of this happening things escalated and the riot began.

In the another place, a student of GTC (Government Technical College) who faced group of Muslim, was killed on the same day at about the same time as the riot mentioned above took place. Muslims beat him to death so savagely that his body was torn into 4 parts. (

Moreover, my friend (my schoolmate) was killed by Muslim Extremists at the same day. Muslims said Burmese people are cruel. So Who made us to be cruel by rioting? All of the rioting was in response to the Muslims initial aggressions and murders.

In addition, in the Pha Sa Pa La quarter, Muslims set up a bomb on a patrol tank at a house when they left Meiktila. People saw that bomb and deactivated. If not, I can’t dare to think what would happen.

In the first week of April, foreigners came to Meiktila to write news and a book about of what happened in Meiktila. I live at the North part of clock tower of town, near to the Oak kyinn quarter. Foreigners asked some questions to some people from Oak Kyinn quarter. At the time they were asking, they made people to answer as they like ( like teaching people how to answer and how not to answer). If a person answered as they said or as they like, they gave 100,000 kyats (Myanmar money) to them as a reward. I think they got the story they liked instead of actual events. This is not journalism or a fair report on what has happened here.

At 4th April, I had heard the news reported that Muslims were allowed to return back to Meiktila and live in Meiktila. During this time we are living under the protection of soldiers. The Muslims that were allowed to reenter the area had stolen four soldier uniforms, which scared all of us Burmese. It took away any security we might feel from the army’s presence knowing that Muslims could be posing as soldiers.

When I used internet and watched videos on youtube, I saw that there was no good news about the Burmese people on most all videos uploaded on youtube. So many videos, especially the media clips, on youtube were saying that Burmese (Buddhism) are so cruel. They uploaded faked videos which had been edited to only show the response of ours to the aggressions of Muslims murdering our monk and other people including my friend. They made muslims appear to be the victims. There are also so many comments written in english. I’ve read that comments and I had seen that these comments are saying “Burmese are so cruel”. I am very sad in knowing people from all over the world are thinking that.

How can I explain the real things that happened in Meiktila? How can I tell them all the truth? The media of our country is not world wide. ((( I am so upset. (( Who can help the Burmese people?

I also hate myself because I am weak in English. I want to explain the truth. But people from other countries will not understand the Burmese language. ((

The last thing I want to say is that Muslims want to live in Meiktila again, but the quarter they want to live is Thiri Mingalar quarter which is main part of Meiktila. If we want to go to Mandalay, Meiktila Industrial Zone, University of Economics, Aviation University, Pyi Thar Yar, we need to pass through Thiri Mingalar quarter, which can be unsafe for Burmese people who are targeted by Muslims. Moreover, High School students need to pass through that quarter to go to No(1), Basic Education High School ( main school of Meiktila). So, how can we live and travel safely everyday through a quarter with Muslims who target our people?

Houses in value of 35,400,00 kyats, will be built for Muslims because some Islamic countries are supporting for them. If so, how about Burmese? I think it is better giving passport to Muslims and send them back to their own place (Muslims Countries). Problems can be solved by many ways. Whatever is to take place, I don’t want anymore riots or death in Meiktila.
